Cybersecurity on a Budget
The economic impact created by COVID-19 has put downward pressure on non-discretionary spending areas like cybersecurity. With the continued evolution of threats and the increasing need for organizations to be cyber-resilient, it is expedient for Higher education institutions to leverage low-budget cybersecurity tools to keep protecting their organizations. While most tools out there can be expensive, open-source tools can save money and provide a solution that meets the organization security needs.

Building a Learner Record
Georgetown is dedicated to Cura Personalis or developing and caring for the whole person. The Georgetown learning environment is rich with co-curricular learning and advising opportunities. The connections students make, the skills students acquire, and the learning experiences in which students engage that are not captured on the transcript are often times what shapes students’ development the most and are what ties them most closely to their alma mater. At Georgetown University, we are using Hoya360 and utilizing the power of Salesforce Lightning Communities to capture, not just information vital for future career development, but also these connections, skill acquisitions, and non-transcript based experiential learning activities to assist students in tracking and understanding their personal and academic growth as they develop into successful, resilient changemakers in service to others. Through collaborations of students, faculty and academic staff, we are prototyping combinations of institutional data, student-inputs, recommendations from advisors, employers and mentors, to create a record of what experiences have had the critical impacts on each student’s experience. This integrated learning record will allow students to reflect upon their areas of skills and need for growth, be able to better make meaning of their developmental journey, and serve as a starting point for as they build CVs, graduate school applications, job applications and tell their story in more meaningful and impactful ways.

IT Portfolio Management in a Time of Pandemic
Georgetown University Information Services survived a perfect storm of institutional evolution, office turmoil and a pandemic by implementing a portfolio management approach to ensuring that IT projects align with institutional priorities. In the face of declining IT investment budgets, constrained personnel resources, Georgetown worked with Gartner to develop its portfolio management process through an agile scrum process. This presentation looks at the lessons learned from Gartner, how the PPM process was developed and looks at the unexpected benefit in improved office culture that the PPM process reaped during the pandemic.

Fresh Service - The story behind outsourcing and for coming back in-house!
Discuss the importance of understanding your vendor workflows, policies and procedures. Developing a detailed transition plan, including requirements gathering, dates and objectives. Discuss vendor selection process, including requirements, transition and post go-live activities. Discuss the importance of organizational buy in.

Georgetown University made the decision to transition its service center back “in house” to provide better service to our communities and also reduce overall cost. This session presents a journey of that transition.

We frequently hear these familiar refrains in relation to vendor transitions:

“How do I get my data” “I didn’t know they did it that way” “Can I get a true transition plan” "What does success look like"
