During COVID-19, Georgetown University leveraged Salesforce’s Health Cloud platform to rapidly roll-out a host of supports for students, staff, and faculty, from contact tracing to vaccine management. Beyond the immediate crisis, the platform has generated competencies that pave the way for a long-term holistic approach to student care through digital collaboration.

The result is the ability to live out the Georgetown core value of cura personalis - caring for the whole person - in new ways. Using Health Cloud, they were able to rally around the unique needs of students, faculty, staff and contractors by providing high-quality wrap-around services.

For Georgetown, this digitized collaboration has opened new doors to address long-term pain points for student services:  How do we enable collaboration across campus?  Where are opportunities to automate student support? Can we digitize the experience using a branded app?  Can we engage third-party contractors in a holistic approach to student care?  Moving from disconnected providers, to a coordinated effort, the project acted as an accelerator to bring together people and technology across the University to better serve the community during an unprecedented time of need.

Drawing on additional research across the US and Canada, we highlight three ways that digital technology can support rapid collaboration between stakeholders: reconfiguration of existing technologies for new uses; leveraging virtual collaboration; and the power of analytics.

Mary Couture, Southeast Managing Client Partner at Verizon, will highlight two higher education/healthcare use cases that enhance the fan experience, improve the student/faculty/staff experience, and provide data for more intelligent routing and decision making.  

A discussion with CISOs about how Cybersecurity has changed over the past year. How have we handled the move to a remote working environment? What are the current/emerging threats in Cybersecurity?  How do we support/protect research while not preventing them from doing the actual research?

Over the past year, Workday Student has seen over 1,000 product enhancements delivered seamlessly to all Workday institutions. With a recent wave of student go lives, we are now registering 200,000+ students. This session will provide an update on Workday Student momentum, a brief demonstration and a discussion around the value realized from institutions that have made the switch to Workday.

UC San Diego has been on a continuous digital transformation journey; years prior, Vince Kellen identified the opportunity in empowering non-technical users across campus to optimize business processes and invest saved time into value-add activities. In the fall of 2020, this vision was brought full force when the university's Research department was brought to an immediate halt with COVID safety protocols. The IT team had to innovate rapidly to bring motion back to the campus or risk continuously losing progress. With dozens of potential tools at their disposal, the team chose recently implemented no-code platform, Kuali Build. With the ability to iterate rapidly and empower non-technical users across campus to quickly create automated processes, the team released a return to research process that enabled motion to return to campus.

When commercial products, backed by billions of data points, offer sophisticated recommendations and provide convenient mobile and desktop access, how can university IT teams provide services to meet user expectations? How can universities provide similar experiences on a smaller scale?

By uniting data across university systems using single, documented structure, Georgetown University was positioned to serve students quickly when COVID-19 arrived. This session will focus on how that structure was developed, how tools like Salesforce and Mulesoft helped us achieve that structure, and how it proved useful in the first weeks of the pandemic.
